Is your factory's roof, partition walls, or foundation bearing the added weight of traditional insulation? Lightweight concrete solves both problems simultaneously: reducing the building load to 350–600 kg/m³ while maintaining insulation, fire resistance, and long-term durability.
Dufago supplies lightweight concrete (aerated concrete) manufactured in a certified factory, delivered directly to construction sites throughout Central Vietnam – from Da Nang and Quang Nam to Quang Ngai.
What is lightweight concrete? How does it differ from regular concrete?
Lightweight concrete (or aerated concrete) is a type of concrete created by evenly distributing tiny air bubbles into a cement mixture, creating a characteristic porous structure that significantly reduces density compared to regular concrete.
According to American Concrete Institute (ACI) standardsThis material is commonly used to reduce building load and improve thermal insulation.
| Lightweight concrete | Technical specifications |
|---|---|
| Proportion | 350 – 600 kg/m³ (ordinary concrete: ~2,400 kg/m³) |
| Compressive strength (28 days) | 1.5 – 2.5 MPa — suitable for applications not subjected to heavy loads. |
| Thermal conductivity | K = 0.1 W/(mK) — superior thermal insulation compared to red brick. |
| Main ingredients | Clean water + PCB40 cement + Specialized foaming additive |
| Air bubble content | ~60g foam / liter of cement water |
| Fire resistance | Non-flammable, no risk of fire or explosion, no toxic fumes. |
Note: Lightweight concrete is not a substitute for load-bearing structural concrete (beams, columns, and slabs). Appropriate applications include: insulation layers, partition walls, lightweight leveling, and thermal insulation.
Lightweight concrete is most effective in the following three application groups, suitable for both civil and industrial construction projects.
Pouring lightweight concrete over concrete roofs or top-floor slabs completely replaces EPS or polyurethane foam. Its outstanding advantages include: non-flammable and no toxic substances released in case of fire – a crucial factor for industrial and apartment buildings.
Constructing partition walls using lightweight cast-in-place concrete or precast panels – suitable for factories, offices, and warehouses requiring flexible space division.
Lightweight concrete is widely used in construction projects with specific load and temperature requirements:
The comparison table below helps investors make an objective assessment before deciding on a material option:
| Criteria | Lightweight concrete | EPS / Polyurethane Foam | Ordinary concrete |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proportion | 350–600 kg/m³ | 15–40 kg/m³ | ~2,400 kg/m³ |
| Thermal conductivity | K = 0.1 W/mK | K = 0.03–0.04 W/mK | K ≈ 1.6 W/mK |
| Fire safety | Fireproof | Flammable, produces toxic fumes. | Fireproof |
| Long-lasting durability | High quality — does not rot or corrode. | Average — easily deformed | High |
| Construction | Cast in place or precast. | Cutting and assembling requires glue. | Pour according to formwork |
| Long-term costs | Low — reduces structural load, saves energy | Low initially, high upon replacement. | Height — increased foundation load |
| Suitable for weak soil conditions | Very suitable | Other materials need to be combined. | Increased load |
Not every facility can control the uniformity of air bubbles in each batch. This is a crucial point that determines the actual density and insulation of the product – and it's where Dufago invests the most.

Lightweight concrete achieves a compressive strength of 1.5–2.5 MPa after 28 days – sufficient for insulation, partition walls, and light leveling applications. However, it is not suitable for primary load-bearing elements such as beams, columns, and structural slabs. For these applications, conventional concrete or reinforced concrete should be used.
For residential and light industrial roof insulation, a density of 400–500 kg/m³ is most common – balancing good insulation with sufficient rigidity for maintenance and foot traffic. Dufago provides specific advice based on the allowable load of each project.
Essentially, they are the same product – 'aerated concrete' describes the formation mechanism (air bubble distribution), while 'lightweight concrete' describes the properties (low density). In the Vietnamese construction industry, these two names are used interchangeably.
Typically, delivery takes 24–48 hours after order confirmation for projects within the factory's service radius. For large projects requiring high volumes, Dufago schedules deliveries according to the construction schedule to avoid site disruptions.
The price of lightweight concrete (aerated concrete) depends on many technical factors and actual construction conditions. Unlike conventional structural concrete, lightweight concrete is designed according to its density and intended use, so the cost can vary from project to project.
If your project is in the design or construction preparation phase, this is the best time to calculate the options – before the formwork is erected.
Concrete density
| Proportion | Application |
|---|---|
| 350–400 kg/m³ | Roof insulation, light leveling |
| 400–500 kg/m³ | Insulated roof, technical floor |
| 500–600 kg/m³ | Partition walls, areas requiring high rigidity. |
The higher the density, the greater the strength and the higher the material cost.
Concrete thickness
| Application | Thickness |
|---|---|
| Residential roofs | 8–12 cm |
| Factory roof | 10–15 cm |
| Ground leveling | 10–30 cm |
Construction volume
Large-scale construction projects are often more cost-effective due to: reduced transportation costs, optimized mix design, and continuous construction.
In addition to lightweight concrete, Dufago also offers... ready-mixed concrete Dufago provides services for structural elements such as foundations, beams, columns, and slabs. We offer site surveys and quotations within 24 hours for projects in Central Vietnam.
